Pictures from the Weekend

Check it:

Paul Fletcher & The Christian Chronicle’s Bobby Ross Jr.- Golden Gate Bridge in the background.

Bobby & Me high above the city.

 View from Twin Peaks.

Kinwood Devore on top of Twin Peaks. Kinwood is the director of Metropolitan Fresh Start – a network of Christian recovery houses serving former prison inmates and addicts.

Men praying together at the end of the Fresh Start morning devotional.

Health food.

Lombard Street.

Sea Lions at Pier 39.

We caught a Giants game Friday night.

Giants ace and Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum was pitching.

Bobby hanging at the game.

Bull, Paul, and “Cody.” Cody is a puppet sent to us from a Texas church that supports Bull in his work. That church sends this puppet anywhere they’re supporting a missionary – the missionary takes pictures of it doing native things then sends it back to Texas. Cody has been to a number of continents – I believe this was his first trip that stayed stateside. Anyway, nothing is more indigenous to San Francisco than a Giants game.

Our whole crew at the game – the Giants won 1-0 after a Pablo Sandoval homerun!

Bible study – my two little ones sitting with their mommy and daddy. Luckily for the picture Airiel was smiling (lol!).

Naomi & her mom.

Dory & Caleb – Paul’s wife and son.

Me giving Bobby a campus tour.

Fun weekend!

In addition to playing, I had a great Bible study last night with the college students at the coffee shop. I’m praying for our little group to grow both spiritually and numerically, and I believe it will.

You’re welcomed to pray too. :)

Bobby Ross Jr. – Christian Chronicle

I’ll be leaving in a few minutes to pick up Bobby Ross Jr. from the San Francisco airport.

Bobby is the managing editor for the Christian Chronicle, and is coming to San Francisco to do a story on Campus Ministry United’s planting and equipping efforts around the country.

Airiel and I will have the pleasure of hosting Bobby while he’s here, and will play reporter with him around San Francisco for the next few days.

This evening we’re planning to take him to fisherman’s wharf, tomorrow to a Giants game, Saturday out to eat for lunch at a surprise location, and to a Bible study and UFC party at my house that evening (normally we’d be at the Fletcher’s on Saturday nights for Bible study, but there’s a UFC pay-per-view – we have our priorities straight over here).

Man, being a reporter sure is hard work.

While he’s here, Bobby will also be gathering information for a story on the revival effort taking place with our home congregation - The Lake Merced Church of Christ - and will be looking into the work that goes on in the bay area through Metropolitan Fresh Start.

This should be a fun few days.

I’m already looking forward to seeing how the stories turn out.

Another Baptism in San Francisco – Marc

Another great day with the Lake Merced Church of Christ in San Francisco :)

If you’d like to leave an encouraging note or Scripture for Marc, do so in the form of a comment and I’ll forward a link to this post to him later.

Thanks,
Wes

California State Budget Crisis Hurting Campus Ministry

I just attempted to enroll at SFSU for the spring 2010 semester, and here’s the message I was given:

Due to the California budget crisis, the California State University is facing an unprecedented reduction in its 2009-2010 support budget.  In order to assure both quality and access, the CSU system must bring enrollment in line with available limited resources by implementing extraordinary enrollment control policies.  As a result, all CSU campuses have been directed that they may not accept any admission applications for the Spring 2010 term for any enrollment category.

San Francisco State will be accepting applications for Fall 2010 from October 1, 2009 to November 30, 2009.

For more information, please check the campus Web site at:

http://www.sfsu.edu/future

 Grrr – frustrating!

Airiel and I both wanted to enroll in a class or two as soon as we qualified for in-state tuition, but it looks like we’re going to have to put that plan on hold.

Hopefully we’ll be able to get in by the fall … we’ll see.

The state government needs to get it together over here – I’ve never heard of a college turning students away for something like this.

Another Baptism in SF Today

Just got home from baptizing a new friend we’ve been studying the Bible with - not going to share her name since I didn’t ask permission, but needless to say I’m very happy about her decision (and Jesus is too).

Another good day in San Francisco :)
