#PBL12 Debriefing

The family and I spent most of last week in Malibu, CA where we attended the 2012 Pepperdine Bible Lectures. The classes and keynotes I took in were excellent (MP3s, CDs, and DVDs are available for purchase here), but the time spent fellowshipping with people I don’t get to see all that often is what I enjoy the most about these types of events, and much of my time was spent doing just that.

Lunch on the cafe patio with my parents – beautiful view of the Pacific ocean just to the right.

My parents, Jim & Geraldine Woodell, were able to make the trek over from Arkansas. They enjoyed spending time with Airiel and I, and also got to spend lots of time loving on grandbabies they don’t get to see as often as others.

Reaching the Missing Generation @ #pbl12

The Pepperdine Bible Lectures are right around the corner.

Airiel and I will be teaching a class Thursday May 3 at 3:15PM in Keck Science Center 130 (map) entitled “Reaching the Missing Generation: Practical Evangelistic Ministry to Twenty-Somethings”. We’re finishing up our prep this week and are looking forward to being in Malibu next.

In our class we will share observations made regarding common characteristics among a few of the most evangelistically effective 20-something ministries in the United States. Data from national studies performed through Campus Ministry United will inform our content in addition to our own experience in evangelistic 20-something ministries both as students and leaders.

I believe this is going to be a good class, and encourage anyone interested in learning how to better make disciples of young people to attend.

Who will be in Malibu next week?

Friday Repost: Awards We Don’t Deserve

I couldn’t help but notice the flutter of posts about Obama’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize this morning.

Here’s an excerpt from the full story:

Obama expressed surprise at winning the award, saying he felt humbled and unworthy of being counted in the company of the “transformative figures” of history who had won it.

“I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments but rather an affirmation of American leadership,” he said in the White House Rose Garden. “I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations to confront the common challenges of the 21st century.

Jesus: ‘All Up in Your Business’

According to the Proverbs related to God’s Wisdom & Sovereignty, God is sovereign over everything.

Stop – ruminate on that for a moment, because that idea has HUGE implications, and it’s all too easy to read over without digesting.

God is sovereign over e v e r y t h i n g!

Ultimately, there is nothing outside the influence of God’s power and control. This does not mean there are not certain things He cannot do, rather, it means there are many things He cannot do. For instance, God cannot make a mistake. God cannot speak untruth (by virtue of His saying something, it is true). God cannot be imperfect in any way.
