Even though I’m not what you would call an ‘American Idol fan’ (in fact, I mostly hate that show), it’s cool seeing all of the shots of my hometown in this video, and cool that Kris got the big dubya putting Little Rock on the map.
From what I hear, he’s an active member of a campus ministry at my old school – The University of Central Arkansas.
I hope he uses his newfound fame to share Jesus with people and doesn’t lose sight of what really matters in life.
I’m a mother and a devout Christian, too. As TV viewer, I recognize that American Idol is a singing talent contest open to all, regardless of orientation or religion. It is not supposed to be a popularity contest for a certain class of persons in society. Among Season 8’s contenders, Adam Lambert was consistently the amazing artist and the best singer, gifted with a powerful voice. America’s vote for Kris, or America’s vote against Adam, seems to be a contemptuous hate vote against sectors of America that Adam stands for. ADAM LAMBERT DESERVED TO WIN. Even Kris Allen himself knows this in his Christian heart, so much so that as soon as he was unexpectedly handed the undeserved crown, he perplexedly declared to the public that “Adam deserves this…” — righteously adhering to glaring truth and instinctively repudiating the ridiculous vote results that are far from the truth. You could actually count the seconds before Kris acquiesced and finally received the crown, but only after Adam encouragingly placed his arm around his shoulder. Adam Lambert is the true winner! What is wrong with America? Or what is wrong with this American Idol TV show?
I disagree with you on a number of issues. I did not watch the entire season of AI and I didn’t know the background of either of these guys. I watched the a couple of shows here and there ans I watched the final 2 episodes. I called in for Kris because I loved his voice. I loved his version of “Ain’t no Sunshine” and when comparing the two-his voice seemed more like something I wanted to hear on the radio or buy. I also felt like if that final song had been dropped a half step-he wouldn’t have struggled to hit the top note and as singer I knew that was the reason he didn’t sound awesome on it. I also know that when you are nervous-your throat is a little more strained and it can cause you to not be able to sing as high.
It wasn’t until after Kris won and I was checking out his videos that I started to read people’s comments below and I realized Adam was bi and Kris was a Christian. Before that I had never heard these things about them, so I wouldn’t assume that everyone voted for Kris based on those two things. I just preferred Kris’s vocal style to Adam’s.
The fact that Kris said that Adam deserved this just shows what a humble guy he is. I think he would have said that no matter who he won against. I think Kris has just been humble through this whole experience (after going back and watching videos of him now) Kris is exactly the person who deserved to win-IMO. Someone who appreciates a win like that and doesn’t even think he deserves it is exactly how I wish all of America was. That’s why i think he deserves to be the “American” Idol.
Why is it so hard to understand that a lot of people(I mean a lot) might like a kris voice over an Adam voice. Yes, when Kris won, he said in a humble way that Adam deserves it. But later after the shock he said he deserved it just as much as Adam. And if you had been watching, Adam said Kris deserved it also. Both were great, but both had different styles and most people would prefer listening to a Kris style. The majority voted on that reason alone. So people get a grip. Their both winners. I can’t wait to buy Kris Allens first album.
I hear you.
I only watched one episode, but I can say that Adam does have the more impressive voice. Not many people have the range that he does.
Adam doesn’t have anything to worry about. Second place on American Idol is actually a better place to be in than first (in my opinion). You’re still guaranteed a record deal, but without the contractual obligations to AI.
I’m not sure that I’d go so far as to say “America’s vote for Kris was a hate vote against Adam.” I think you have to consider the demographics of those who pay attention to American Idol in the first place. They don’t represent the entire country – they represent part of the country who enjoy Top 40/Adult Contemporary pop music.
That doesn’t represent all of America.
Their voting for someone they identify with doesn’t necessarily mean they hate the other person either.
My wife loved Kris this season. I’ll admit that I have not been a big fan of the show since Chris Daughtry was voted off so early a few seasons ago, but I listen once in a while because my wife still loves seeing talented unknowns become successful.
