In a few short years those white haired saints like me will be gone. Then what?

Perhaps we should focus on Jesus and the good news about what he has already accomplished for sinners.

This portrays to me that young people are more attracted to the modern media than traditi0nal church services. Right, wrong or indifferent that does seem to be the trend.

Perhaps the message is to utilize modern media instead of relying on what has worked for us older folks.

You can view the cartoon as sarcasm or as an honest attempt to illustrate what’s happening. You be the judge. Paul did become all things to all people that he might save some (1 Cor. 9:19-23)

My first thought was…did they mean to put Church of Christ on that building? Cause most C of C’s have really boring buildings and that looks very similar to just about all the Catholic buildings I have seen.
However, I believe that it shows that there are so many out there who want to hear the msg about Christ, but feel judged or condemned every time they enter a church building. There is just a lot of uneasiness in the minds of those who didn’t grow up in a church building, but they find the story of Christ to be something that seems like it could make their life better in some way. This is so often the case with college students that I study with who have never stepped through the doors of a church building, but are extremely interested in a life with Christ. It usually takes us a while to eventually get them into the building.

Thankfully, a number of congregations of which I am aware are trying hard to overcome the hatefulness and arrogance of the past.

The stereotypes which came from the attitude of “we have the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth” were well deserved and drove the occasional visitor from our services, but not before they were told how bad off they were without us!

It is refreshing to meet for assembly worship, home groups, fellowships and even showings of “The Passion of the Christ,” with Christians and seekers who finally get it, e.g., “It’s not about us, it’s about Jesus.”

I know of a congregation about which is said, “They are the praying-est bunch of people I ever met,” or “If you need a church who loves and accepts you, go to that church,” or “They are the most loving, friendly church I have ever been around.”

This church believes in being led by the Spirit and as a result has been blessed with growth from about 3o to over 200 in the past few years, while being in the country at least 7 miles from the nearest town. Some drive in over 50 miles, passing many houses of worship along the way, to be a part of a congregation that understands they are “simply beggars, telling other beggars where they can get a loaf of bread.”

It is refreshing to know that some congregations are no longer stuck in the traditions and attitudes of the past, but have incorporated their Passion for the Christ into the church, as it should be. This is being accomplished, while at the same time remaining Biblically pure AND relevant to the time and culture.

So, when I view the cartoon, I see the church as it WAS (and may still be in some places) but not as it IS in increasing numbers of places today. Praise God!

  4. People want Jesus but not the church.

Actually, my first thought was, “What Church of Christ has a crucifix on top?”
