Church of Christ Youth Minister & Watershed Worship Singer Sean Algaier to Appear on NBC’s The Biggest Loser

Many of the regular readers of westcoastwitness.com know Sean Algaier.

In addition to being the youth minister for the Jenks Church of Christ in the Tulsa area, Sean is also one of the lead singers of Watershed – a high energy Christian acappella group that’s frequently made appearances at Church of Christ retreats and workshops within the past five or six years.

Someone posted a link to this video on Facebook, and I clicked on it when I recognized Sean’s face in the still shot.

Apparently, Sean is a contestant on the upcoming season of NBC’s The Biggest Loser – a reality show where overweight people compete to see who can lose the most (here’s Sean’s profile on NBC’s site).

Good for him!

I know how tough it is to lose weight and admire Sean for putting himself out there, admitting he has a problem, and taking steps to fix it.

I’ve never watched more than a few minutes of The Biggest Loser, but will be tuning in this season rooting for Sean to win. The season premiere is September 15 at 8/7c.

Am I sharing yesterday’s news over here … did you already know about this?

Here’s a related video of Sean poking fun at himself and sharing his passion for nachos, fried chicken, rolls, and gravy (seriously … lol):

What in the world???

Anyway, watch Sean on The Biggest Loser!

UPDATE: The show is now over – check out Sean’s transformation here. He lost over 150 pounds!

Former KoRn Member Brian “Head” Welch’s Testimony

Ever experienced a mosh pit at a KoRn concert?

I have.

Crazy.

Head’s testimony reminds me much of my own story … many parallels, including the supernatural experience he speaks of.

Check it out:

Powerful.

If you’re unaware of who KoRn is, understand this: they are a mega-huge thrash-metal band known for their heavy style and brutal lyrics. I grew up with them, and was a huge fan for many years (knick-knack paddy-whack anyone?).

Brian “Head” Welch used to be KoRn’s lead guitarist. He left because he gave his life to Christ, and saw staying with the band as being incompatible with that commitment.

Brian has taken tons and tons and TONS of heat for his decision, but he’s stuck with his commitment to Jesus in the midst of being ridiculed and mocked by former fans.

I have a lot of respect for this guy. Most people aren’t ridiculed at all for making a personal decision to follow Jesus, and how hard is it for most to be truly committed without the ridicule and mockery? It’s not easy! I’ve found that true disciples are a fairly rare breed.

Imagine if everyone had it as rough as Brian … would you be following Jesus today if thousands of people were calling your name screaming about what an idiot you were for continuing to do so?

I find myself being encouraged by Brian’s example – I think you should too.

2010 Princeton Review

The Princeton Review is a great resource to use in finding info on colleges and universities in the United States.

Each year, a comprehensive, scientific study is conducted on various aspects of our nation’s schools: academics/admissions, demographics, town life, politics, quality of life, extracurriculars, and the social scene (my favorite).

PR released the 2010 edition of their rankings today.

Parents – now you know where not to send your kids. You’re welcome.

There are a ton of other categories to peruse with useful information … one of the cool things I found is that San Francisco is ranked as one of the top college towns. Also, SFSU is no longer listed as a top school for marijuana use. We’re moving up in the world (or down, depending on your perspective).

Please share this resource with others. It’s great for prospective students, parents, campus ministers, and anyone else interested in staying up-to-date on collegiate life in the United States.

Enjoy!
