Useful Resource – The God Questions: Exploring Life’s Great Questions About God

The God Questions: Exploring Life’s Great Questions About God by Hal Seed & Dan Grider is a book you should own if you’re dealing with people seeking honest answers to a few of life’s biggest questions:

  • Is God real?
  • Is the Bible true?
  • Do all roads lead to heaven?
  • How can a good God allow suffering?
  • Isn’t Christianity a crutch for weak people?
  • Why is the church full of hypocrites?
  • What’s the purpose of the church?

… and more.

I haven’t read this book from cover to cover yet, but what I have read has been really helpful. In fact, for my study with the college students this past weekend, I simply read the chapters pertaining to the historicity of the Bible instead of typing up a bunch of stuff myself. Fee & Grider summed up the case for me better than I would have and saved me a lot of work in doing so.

This is a quick read, but it packs a punch. The discussion questions at the end of each chapter are good too.

You might consider giving this book a look yourself.

Good stuff.

Former KoRn Member Brian “Head” Welch’s Testimony

Ever experienced a mosh pit at a KoRn concert?

I have.

Crazy.

Head’s testimony reminds me much of my own story … many parallels, including the supernatural experience he speaks of.

Check it out:

Powerful.

If you’re unaware of who KoRn is, understand this: they are a mega-huge thrash-metal band known for their heavy style and brutal lyrics. I grew up with them, and was a huge fan for many years (knick-knack paddy-whack anyone?).

Brian “Head” Welch used to be KoRn’s lead guitarist. He left because he gave his life to Christ, and saw staying with the band as being incompatible with that commitment.

Brian has taken tons and tons and TONS of heat for his decision, but he’s stuck with his commitment to Jesus in the midst of being ridiculed and mocked by former fans.

I have a lot of respect for this guy. Most people aren’t ridiculed at all for making a personal decision to follow Jesus, and how hard is it for most to be truly committed without the ridicule and mockery? It’s not easy! I’ve found that true disciples are a fairly rare breed.

Imagine if everyone had it as rough as Brian … would you be following Jesus today if thousands of people were calling your name screaming about what an idiot you were for continuing to do so?

I find myself being encouraged by Brian’s example – I think you should too.

Turn It Around, or Put One Between Its Eyes – Tim Spivey on Turnaround Churches

As I mentioned here, I’ll be archiving resources to help with church revitalization efforts on westcoastwitness.com.

Tim Spivey has been writing a series on Turnaround Churches, and so far he’s made five entries.

I’m not sure if more are coming or not (since he hasn’t answered my question about that :p), but here are those that have been posted so far:

  1. Turnaround Churches – Intro
  2. Turnaround Churches pt. 1 – Diagnosis and Humility
  3. Turnaround Churches pt. 2 – Spiritual Renewal
  4. Turnaround Churches pt. 3 – Mission
  5. Turnaround Churches pt. 4 – Structure
  6. Turnaround Churches pt. 5 – Fresh Air
  7. Turnaround Churches pt. 6 – Leadership

I could only locate parts 1-4 of this series, but they’re numbered through five. It appears that either #3 is missing, or Tim made a mistake in the numbering.

Anyway, I encourage you to read these entries – good stuff.
